My Biggest Pet Peeve- Become more resourceful

Erika

In this episode I dive into one of the most important tools for success—resourcefulness.

This is something that has completely changed my life and helped me go from surviving to thriving, both personally and professionally.

I share my own journey, from humble beginnings to building a seven-figure business, and the critical role that resourcefulness has played in every step of that journey.

Whether you’re feeling stuck or just looking for that push to take action, this episode is packed with practical advice to help you figure things out and create the success you want in your life.

It’s all about taking control, solving problems, and making progress—no matter where you start.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • How resourcefulness can overcome a lack of resources
  • Why figuring things out on your own is key to success
  • The importance of taking imperfect action over waiting for perfection
  • How to stop relying on others and start trusting yourself
  • Why resilience and a problem-solving mindset are essential in business and life

Key Takeaways:

  1. Resourcefulness is a Superpower: It’s not about what you have, it’s about what you can create with what you’ve got.
  2. Action Beats Overthinking: You don’t need to have all the answers right now. Just start, and the path will become clearer as you go.
  3. Become a Lifelong Learner: Whether it’s through Google, YouTube, or mentorship, commit to finding solutions and leveling up.
  4. Don’t Outsource Your Power: You have the power to figure it out, so stop waiting for someone else to solve your problems.
  5. Messing Up is Progress: Every failure is a step toward success. If you’re willing to get back up every time, you’ll get to where you want to be.

I’m here to remind you that resourcefulness isn’t something you’re born with—it’s a skill you can cultivate. And once you master it, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.

Hola.

Speaker A:

Hola.

Erica:

It's your girl, Erica from America.

Erica:

Welcome to the Confidence Chronicles podcast.

Erica:

This podcast is all about helping you stand in who you are.

Erica:

Stop giving a fuck when people think about you.

Erica:

Start standing as your fully expressed self, as you are queen as is.

Erica:

There is no filter needed.

Erica:

You are fucking awesome.

Erica:

And I am here to remind you, I'm a confidence coach, a business mentor, a speaker, an authorization, and I am obsessed with women standing up, showing up, and creating their confidence.

Erica:

And I cannot wait to dig into today's episode with you.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

I had last week the most incredible, amazing guest, gorgeous Maha Abu Elenin.

Speaker A:

She is so incredible.

Speaker A:

If you haven't listened to that episode, I know so many of you have messaged me, and you're like, holy crap, that episode was amazing.

Speaker A:

And it's so funny because what she speaks on and what we jammed on in that episode is something that I speak about a lot, and it's actually a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

Speaker A:

And so I wanted to come on to the podcast and dig deeper into this topic.

Speaker A:

And the topic is about being resourceful.

Speaker A:

Resourcefulness.

Speaker A:

I just had a call with one of my queen's table ladies coaching call.

Speaker A:

And I said to them on these Q and a masterminds, we do them once a month.

Speaker A:

Basically, everyone comes to the call with their ask, with their question, with their challenge, with what's going on for them, and what do they need help with.

Speaker A:

And on this call, it's the one call where all of us answer.

Speaker A:

And so I'm not answering questions.

Speaker A:

I'm not the expert.

Speaker A:

This is where we mastermind.

Speaker A:

So there are women on the call that are incredible and amazing, and they know so much, and they might be each other's ideal clients.

Speaker A:

And so we get on the call, we get everyone's big thought process question topic, and then we chunk up and jam.

Speaker A:

Who else wants sell out their events?

Speaker A:

Who else wants to get paid to speak on stage?

Speaker A:

Okay?

Speaker A:you know, their game plan for:Speaker A:

So we get on this call, right?

Speaker A:

And what's the first thing I say?

Speaker A:

I'm like, ladies, one of the skills.

Speaker A:

And let me just rewind for a second.

Speaker A:

The reason why I created the queen's table.

Speaker A:

If I'm in all honesty, in the future, I will not be able to work with people on Zoom.

Speaker A:

I will not be able to run group coaching sessions.

Speaker A:

I will not be available for one on one coaching.

Speaker A:

I'm just not going to have the bandwidth in the future that I am building.

Speaker A:

And creating for myself, which is being of impact to millions of women around the world.

Speaker A:

In my eye, I'm on stages.

Speaker A:

I'm speaking, I'm writing books.

Speaker A:

I may be doing a seven to ten day date with destiny, Tony Robbins style event, and I'm running events, but I'm not on Zoom.

Speaker A:

I'm not coaching one on one.

Speaker A:

I'm not in a small group.

Speaker A:

The queen's table is going to be, like, ten to 25 women that work with me hands on for six months.

Speaker A:

By the way, if you want to learn about what the queen's table is, head to the link in the show notes.

Speaker A:

The waitlist is open right now because we are taking on our second group, and it is intimate and it is limited.

Speaker A:

And I will not be doing this forever, so get in while you can.

Speaker A:

Sorry about the side note.

Speaker A:

Just needed to let you know what that was.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

So now we're on this call, and I said to them, my goal in the queen's table and taking these women on the journey with me for the next six months, if I joined Erica's queen's table, I want.

Speaker A:

I want to know how Erica does what she does.

Speaker A:

I want to know how Erica thinks.

Speaker A:

I want to know the mistakes that Erica's made so I can learn and not make them.

Speaker A:

I want to fast forward.

Speaker A:

I want to move faster than I'm moving, because it took me, however, seven, six years to be where I am right now.

Speaker A:

And I'm going to teach you this in six months so you don't have to wait seven years.

Speaker A:

I'm paying for that.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker A:

Proximity.

Speaker A:

I want to know the way Erica thinks about things.

Speaker A:

I want to know behind the scenes, what is the stuff that she doesn't share on Instagram that she doesn't share on the podcast because she can't have.

Speaker A:

What are the things, the decisions that she makes, the way that she thinks, the values that she holds, the beliefs?

Speaker A:

So I look at if I was a member of the queen's table, what would I want to learn from Erica?

Speaker A:

And that's how I run this program.

Speaker A:

I run this program like I'm in it, and I want to know shit.

Speaker A:

So I said to them, I said, one of the things that I want you to know about me, the core things, one of my core beliefs or core habits that I've created for myself is being resourceful.

Speaker A:

Resource.

Speaker A:

This is everything.

Speaker A:

And Tony Robbins, I'll never forget, talked about it on a show or an episode that I watched, and he basically said, it's not a lack of resources.

Speaker A:

It's a lack of resourcefulness, meaning you could be rich, loaded, have everything you need.

Speaker A:

But if you are not resourceful, you will not create what you need.

Speaker A:

And on the flip side, you could come from nothing.

Speaker A:

Exhibit a, me, right?

Speaker A:

Be poor, be on food stamps, have no upbringing that was good, have no good mentorship or role models, have abuse, trauma, whatever it is you went through and learn the tool of resourcefulness and be able to show up and create the life that you want.

Speaker A:

And so I said to the queen's table, ladies, I'm like, what you need to know is that resourcefulness is something that you need to learn.

Speaker A:

If you don't know how to do it, you figure it out.

Speaker A:

Please do not come to this call with questions that are googleable, with questions that are chat GPT able, with questions that you could figure out on YouTube.

Speaker A:

And let me tell you, we are in the best time of our lives.

Speaker A:

Maha said this on the episode.

Speaker A:

I mean, there's never been a better time to be alive than right now.

Speaker A:

If you were starting from scratch, your business, your impact, your.

Speaker A:

Your personal brand, your career, right now, you are better off than what we were 510 years ago.

Speaker A:

You're better off right now.

Speaker A:

More billionaires are being built.

Speaker A:

People are growing from social media in speed record time because of the virality of videos, because of the views, because when you open an Instagram, you're instantly global.

Speaker A:

Because when you start a podcast and you have a microphone, you're instantly global.

Speaker A:

I'm global instantly.

Speaker A:

When you're on LinkedIn and you build your profile and you comment and connect, LinkedIn, incredible algorithm is incredible and amazing and one of the best for people to see you and you to be seen and connect with people because there are more networking opportunities than ever.

Speaker A:

Because TikTok, which I'm not even on actively, is such a thing.

Speaker A:

YouTube shorts is such a thing.

Speaker A:

I can't sell it to you more how.

Speaker A:

It's never been a better time.

Speaker A:

And so what I mean about resourcefulness and the shit that pisses me off, if I'm honest about resourcefulness, is that we either think I can't do it, I'm not good at it.

Speaker A:

I don't know how to do it.

Speaker A:

I wasn't born into it.

Speaker A:

Nobody's shown me I'm not good at that thing.

Speaker A:

I don't have this skill.

Speaker A:

I'm not confident.

Speaker A:

Whatever it is we live in the camp of I'm not, and I can't.

Speaker A:

And then there's another camp that's like, I will figure it out.

Speaker A:

No matter what.

Speaker A:

I'm going to workshop this.

Speaker A:

No matter what, I'm going to get my answer.

Speaker A:

No matter what, I will achieve the goals and the dreams that I have.

Speaker A:

No matter what, I will make it happen for myself.

Speaker A:

That's the side that I want you to veer into.

Speaker A:

That's the side that I want you to step into, is that I will figure it out no matter what.

Speaker A:

Here's an example.

Speaker A:

I am right now in book pre order.

Speaker A:

So for October 16, my second book, Becoming Magnetic, is going to be available on pre order in Australia and New Zealand.

Speaker A:

I'm so sorry.

Speaker A:

It makes me want to cry that my american and UK and european audience can't order the book.

Speaker A:

Canadian audience, south american audience can't order the book yet.

Speaker A:

Yet.

Speaker A:

Stay tuned, baby.

Speaker A:

I got you.

Speaker A:

So, in Australia, New Zealand, this book is coming out.

Speaker A:

And obviously I do shit big.

Speaker A:

I like big.

Speaker A:

I like taking up space.

Speaker A:

I like being loud and proud and bold.

Speaker A:

And I'm an extrovert.

Speaker A:

That's the way I am.

Speaker A:

Even if I was an introvert, I would be taking up space.

Speaker A:

So I'm like, okay, I got this book launch.

Speaker A:

I've got this pre order.

Speaker A:

How do I sell a thousand copies of my book in the first week?

Speaker A:

How do I take the book and launch it around Australia and do one of the biggest and best and most exciting book launches ever done?

Speaker A:

How do I do this?

Speaker A:

I have tried to ask questions and enroll people into my vision since I learned about vision.

Speaker A:

I don't do anything by myself.

Speaker A:

I'm bringing people in.

Speaker A:

I'm talking about it, right?

Speaker A:

I've got someone in my corner that's possibly going to help me do the national tour.

Speaker A:

However, I don't put my eggs in other people's baskets.

Speaker A:

That's all I can think about.

Speaker A:

That's my analogy.

Speaker A:

I don't go, oh, that person said they would help me, or that person is going to help me.

Speaker A:

All my eggs in their basket.

Speaker A:

My basket is empty.

Speaker A:

No, baby.

Speaker A:

I go, thank you, person.

Speaker A:

And also, I am over here researching how to do a book launch national tour.

Speaker A:

I am over here researching how to get sponsors and help.

Speaker A:

I am over here researching how to do my best, pre order.

Speaker A:

I am over here asking my friends questions that are also authors and incredible.

Speaker A:

Shout out to Natasha Willis, my homegirl who's been helping me, and she's incredible.

Speaker A:

I love you, sister school of bots.

Speaker A:

Go and check her out.

Speaker A:

She was also on the podcast.

Speaker A:

Like, I'm.

Speaker A:

I'm trying to reach out to my community and be like, yo, what do you think I should do?

Speaker A:

Have you seen this before?

Speaker A:

What do you think?

Speaker A:

What do you think?

Speaker A:

Researching YouTube?

Speaker A:

I can't tell you how many YouTube videos I have watched these past two weeks.

Speaker A:

Hamish is like, are you done?

Speaker A:

Like, literally, like, your whole history on YouTube is all of the.

Speaker A:

I'm like, I'm not done.

Speaker A:

I have all these notes, and I'm like, mad scientist with all my papers and all my notebooks and all my crazy notes because I'm trying to make sure that I know what I'm doing.

Speaker A:

I'm not outsourcing my power to someone else who may be able to help me, she might be able to help me, and I will also be clued up, and I will also know what's going on.

Speaker A:

We have a joke in my team where I say, like, it's not really a joke because it's actually true, but I'm like, when I hire someone, I'm like, hi.

Speaker A:

I need you to be detail oriented.

Speaker A:

I need you to be self led.

Speaker A:

I need you to be confident.

Speaker A:

I need you to have your finger on the pulse, and I'm gonna have my finger on your pulse, and I have my fingers on all the pulses.

Speaker A:

I know what's going on with PR.

Speaker A:

I know what's going on with Spotify.

Speaker A:

I know what's going on with, you know, podcasting, what's going on with social media.

Speaker A:

I watch all the news.

Speaker A:

I understand what's happening in the world.

Speaker A:

I understand what's going on in coaching and live events, and I've got my finger on the pulse.

Speaker A:

Not because I don't trust people.

Speaker A:

That used to be my problem.

Speaker A:

I am more trusting now, but because I am aware of all the changes and innovations and things.

Speaker A:

And I like looking and zooming out of things.

Speaker A:

If I get too close, too close to my life and too close to my business, too close to what we do and how we do it, I forget to zoom out.

Speaker A:

I forget that there are other ways that people do things.

Speaker A:

I forget that there's a new thing happening or there's an innovation that might help us.

Speaker A:

And so I want to be all up in it.

Speaker A:

So I read things.

Speaker A:

I look at other industries.

Speaker A:

I look at other industries a lot.

Speaker A:

I do not look to coaches in my coaching industry.

Speaker A:

I don't look to confidence coaching.

Speaker A:

I don't look to mindset coaches.

Speaker A:

I don't.

Speaker A:

I definitely not look to therapist, no offense, but, like, there's nothing innovative there, you know?

Speaker A:

So I'm looking at other industries all the time.

Speaker A:

And I read a lot, and I watch a lot, and so I got my.

Speaker A:

Like, I lick my hand, and I'm like, I know where the wind's blowing.

Speaker A:

I got my finger on the pulse.

Speaker A:

So when someone works for me or works with me or I hire someone, they better be sharp.

Speaker A:

They better know the answers.

Speaker A:

Do not ask me silly ass questions that I can google and figure it out for you, because you're gone.

Speaker A:

Like, I'm not having that.

Speaker A:

Like, we need to be quick.

Speaker A:

Let's move.

Speaker A:

And I'm telling you right now, this skill has helped me to progress faster than I would have.

Speaker A:

This skill has helped me to progress in a depth of speed and a depth of time that I would never.

Speaker A:

I would have never gotten to where I am right now.

Speaker A:

I'm telling you not even to talk about money.

Speaker A:

But I think money is important, especially for latinas.

Speaker A:

Women of color need to be talking about money, okay?

Speaker A:

I'm not a rich white man.

Speaker A:

And make some damn money.

Speaker A:

Damn impact, and there's nothing fucking taboo about it, so get over it.

Speaker A:

If you got issues with it, work on that shit, because there's nothing bad about it.

Speaker A:

But my second year in my business, I made half a million dollars.

Speaker A:

I had no business doing that.

Speaker A:

I had no fucking business doing that.

Speaker A:

Who am I to be able to even do that?

Speaker A:

I thought I'd be homeless on the streets, addicted to drugs, pregnant to multiple different men.

Speaker A:

Like, no offense, but that's what I thought my life, because that's what I saw, and that's how I grew up.

Speaker A:

However.

Speaker A:

However, I was very savvy.

Speaker A:

I was on the Google.

Speaker A:

I was listening to Amy Porterfield and Gary Vaynerchuk and all these people that were nowhere near where I was.

Speaker A:

They were well in advance, and still are.

Speaker A:

They still are well in advance as to where I want to be.

Speaker A:

But there were things they were doing.

Speaker A:

And as Tony Robbins says, success leaves clues.

Speaker A:

If you are willing to look for the damn clues, you will find them.

Speaker A:

And so I'm not air quotes Techie.

Speaker A:

When people be like, oh, man, you're so techie.

Speaker A:

That's the one I vomit in my mouth.

Speaker A:

I'm definitely not techie.

Speaker A:

I wish I was more techie.

Speaker A:

But guess what?

Speaker A:

I am resourceful.

Speaker A:

Guess what I'm willing to do.

Speaker A:

How do I build a landing page?

Speaker A:

Do I.

Speaker A:

What is Kajabi?

Speaker A:

I hear somebody say something, and I write it down.

Speaker A:

I'm watching baby become a watcher.

Speaker A:

Become someone who sees something and hears something and get curious and find out what is that what is Kajabi?

Speaker A:

What is this thing?

Speaker A:

What?

Speaker A:

Hmm?

Speaker A:

What's that?

Speaker A:

Do I need that?

Speaker A:

No, I don't need that.

Speaker A:

Okay, cool.

Speaker A:

Let me investigate.

Speaker A:

And so I listened.

Speaker A:

I watched.

Speaker A:

I tried to figure it out.

Speaker A:

Do I know what I'm doing?

Speaker A:

Hell, no.

Speaker A:

Let me tell you.

Speaker A:

Nobody in business knows what they're doing.

Speaker A:

Ps, we are all trying to figure this shit out.

Speaker A:

And the ones that are good help each other.

Speaker A:

And the smart people invest and pay people.

Speaker A:

People pay me so that I can share what I know.

Speaker A:

They don't have to go through that time.

Speaker A:

Not screenshotting and taking people's shit, that's different.

Speaker A:

That's not very kind.

Speaker A:

I'm saying, investing in yourself and hiring the person you want to learn from.

Speaker A:

Think about that.

Speaker A:

Who is where you want to be, who is doing the things that you want to do.

Speaker A:

Can you learn from them?

Speaker A:

Can you watch their shit?

Speaker A:

Can you listen to their podcast?

Speaker A:

Can you not only follow them on social media, do they have a book you can buy?

Speaker A:

Like, Maha's book is going to help so many people.

Speaker A:

I bought, like, 15 copies.

Speaker A:

Do a giveaway.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I want to learn from her.

Speaker A:

She's done amazing things.

Speaker A:

I don't expect people, don't expect people to give you their brain.

Speaker A:

Not want to pick your brain.

Speaker A:

Worst statement, you can never say, don't say, I want to pick your brain to anyone.

Speaker A:

Nobody wants their brain picked because everybody's busy and we don't have time, right?

Speaker A:

So what we need to be thinking about is, how do I get resourceful?

Speaker A:

How do I learn from these people?

Speaker A:

What would help me?

Speaker A:

Let me just tell you, like, a quick way that you could learn anything you want to learn.

Speaker A:

Become a good googler, okay?

Speaker A:

Become someone that asks.

Speaker A:

Google exactly what you want to know.

Speaker A:

And then be prepared to write and watch all those damn videos that come up on YouTube.

Speaker A:

Have a pen and paper.

Speaker A:

Action it.

Speaker A:

Because I could take on content.

Speaker A:

You can listen to my podcast and air quotes.

Speaker A:

Binge it and learn nothing, and your mind will go, yeah, yeah, I know that.

Speaker A:

Erica taught me that.

Speaker A:

And then I go, but what did you learn, really?

Speaker A:

Did you action what you learned to if you don't action this stuff?

Speaker A:

The reason why I became good at it, literally, I had an issue today with my audio, and I was like, why does my audio have an echo in Riverside?

Speaker A:

It wasn't working.

Speaker A:

And so I was like, fucking Mahatma.

Speaker A:

We're going to zoom.

Speaker A:

So I sent a zoom link because I was like, we have to keep moving.

Speaker A:

Let's solve problems and keep moving.

Speaker A:

And if you are a business owner, if you are a leader, the more problems you can solve faster, the better.

Speaker A:

It's about imperfect action.

Speaker A:

It's about progress over perfection.

Speaker A:

It's not about analysis, paralysis and thinking about what you could do and not doing it.

Speaker A:

And so one of the things, one of the core things, besides radical responsibility, besides the value of integrity, besides the value of authenticity, besides taking up space and owning who you are without apology, besides all that, that I'm teaching the queen's table, the biggest thing, resourcefulness.

Speaker A:

Learn how to become the person that figures out how to do the thing.

Speaker A:

And if someone also helps you, fantastic.

Speaker A:

But you're not sitting there with your arms crossed waiting.

Speaker A:

You're not waiting for anybody to deliver it to you.

Speaker A:

You are actually making it happen for yourself.

Speaker A:

And will you mess up a 101 million?

Speaker A:

You're going to mess up a lot.

Speaker A:

Be okay with that.

Speaker A:

Consider that you messing up and you making mistakes is actually the reason why you will be so good at it.

Speaker A:

I'm teaching this to my nine year old, and I know I talk about it all the time on the podcast, but like, I'm just like, if you're willing to mess up more than everyone else, you'll be the best.

Speaker A:

You know how you become the best?

Speaker A:

You mess up, you fall down a lot and you bounce back up.

Speaker A:

That is what can happen for you.

Speaker A:

So I really want you to consider and think about, am I a resourceful person?

Speaker A:

Will I find the answer no matter what do I look?

Speaker A:

Do I unturn the stones?

Speaker A:

Do I continue finding the answer, no matter how hard it feels?

Speaker A:

Do I give up easily?

Speaker A:

How resilient am I when it comes to problem solving, when it comes to overcoming challenges?

Speaker A:

Do I look everywhere?

Speaker A:

Where else could I be looking?

Speaker A:

Who else can support me?

Speaker A:

How do I invest in myself?

Speaker A:

Where can I find the answer to my question?

Speaker A:

These are the things that I want you to think about.

Speaker A:

I don't know how.

Speaker A:

Okay, who can help me?

Speaker A:

How could I find the answer?

Speaker A:

What would be the best way to figure this out?

Speaker A:

This is the thought process of someone that backs and believes in resourcefulness.

Speaker A:

I'm like, all right, there's a problem.

Speaker A:

How do we solve it?

Speaker A:

I have a massive problem right now with the pre orders and a massive problem with my book launch national tour.

Speaker A:

Sounds exciting, but it's a lot to solve and I can't do it by myself.

Speaker A:

And so I get resourceful with who I use and how I use them and who I ask.

Speaker A:

And I'm like, hey, can you help me.

Speaker A:

Can we do this?

Speaker A:

And can we create a plan?

Speaker A:

And then there's a plan, and now there's actions to be taken.

Speaker A:

And I'm telling you now, people will be like, oh, my God, you're killing it.

Speaker A:

I'm resorting.

Speaker A:

I will find a way.

Speaker A:

And Tony says it, you either find a way or you find an excuse.

Speaker A:

And I want to encourage you today in your life, in your business, in your impact, in your parenting, in your career, in your work, and in your purpose.

Speaker A:

Find a way.

Speaker A:

I love you so much.

Speaker A:

Have the best week.

Speaker A:

I'll see you next week.

Erica:
